Playing we learn to program
Who said that programming is at odds with language learning? In the Valencian classes of Primary 6 (PAI 1) we have shown that grammar and vocabulary can be learned through Programming.
The students are working on adverbs and, in order for them to practice and learn to identify them among other types of words, taking advantage of the fact that Pokemons are very fashionable, we played the game: “Word Hunter”.
They individually programmed in Swift Language a list of 30 words, including adverbs, nouns, verbs and words of different grammatical categories. They put the label “true” on the adverbs and “false” on the rest of the words, so that, by programming, they already learned to differentiate them and identify the adverbs.
Once this step was done, we went out to the patio so that they could hide their words in different corners of the school. Next, your partner would have to find those words and catch only the ones that were adverbs.
The students have enjoyed this innovative activity and, best of all, they learned in a motivating way that is close to their reality.
At Levante International School we implement Programming as one more tool to learn all kinds of content, verifying that, in addition, it is possible to integrate it into any subject.
